Lara specializes in the marketing and disposition of excess retail and industrial real estate nationally. Lara currently manages the surplus CVS/Caremark and Hastings portfolios at DJM and co-manages the disposition project for Sears Holdings Corporation.
Lease restructuring programs for retailers Lara has worked on include Charming Shoppes, Checkers, Office Depot, The Pantry, Stein Mart and one of the largest national auto parts retailers.
Bankruptcy work Lara has worked on includes cases such as Blockbuster, BI-LO, Borders, Deb Shops, Movie Gallery, Real Mex, and Shopko.
Lara has successfully mitigated or restructured over 300 leases saving clients more han $35M.
Lara serves as a board member of the International Council of Shopping Center’s Legal Update publication and has authored two articles, “Is a Landlord Obligated to Mitigate Damages?” (Fall/Winter 2008) and “Concession Rhymes With Recession: Legal Issues in Rent Reductions” (Spring 2009).
